Pharmacovigilance

Image
*  Introduction -  Pharmacovigilance (PV) means keeping watch on medicines to find, understand, and stop harmful effects. The goal is to make sure that every medicine stays safe and useful for patients. -  Following the rules set by the EMA, FDA, and ICH means doing things properly — like recording each case correctly, reporting it on time, and keeping clear records in the quality system. Pharmacovigilance aims to ensure that:- •  Patients receive safe, effective treatments. •  Healthcare professionals can make informed decisions. •  Companies maintain compliance with strict global regulations. •  Public trust in the healthcare system is preserved. **  Understanding Pharmacovigilance matters because it defines the ethical and regulatory expectations of every pharmaceutical organisation and employee. *  What Is Pharmacovigilance? -  Pharmacovigilance (PV) means keeping an eye on medicines to make sure they are safe. It includes finding, c...

Important Terms of CDM(Clinical Data Management)

📌  Important Terms of CDM(Clinical Data Management)-  * Pillars / Process of CDM:- 1️⃣ Collection:- Collection in CDM is a systematic process of capturing clinical trial data from various sources such as: -  CRFs (Case Report Forms). -  EDC systems (Electronic Data Capture). -  Laboratory reports. - Patient diaries. -  Medical devices. •  Goal:- -  To ensure accuracy, completeness, and adherence to study protocols. •  Example:- In a diabetes clinical trial, a patient’s fasting blood glucose levels are recorded in CRFs by site staff. These values are collected from lab results and entered into the EDC system for further processing. 2️⃣ Integration:- Integration in CDM refers to the process of combining CT (Clinical Trial) data from multiple sources (CRFs, lab systems, safety databases, etc.) into a unified database. •  Goal:- To ensure consistency, standardization, and readiness for analysis. •  Example:- In an oncology trial, data...

New FDA Approval Brings Hope in Bladder Cancer Treatment

Image
New FDA Approval Brings Hope in Bladder Cancer Treatment • Bladder cancer, especially BCG-unresponsive non-muscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC), has long posed a major challenge in urology due to limited treatment options and difficult clinical decisions. • On September 9, 2025, the FDA approved Inlexzo (gemcitabine intravesical system) - formerly TAR-200 marking a breakthrough advancement in cancer care. * What makes Inlexzo unique? • Specifically designed for patients unresponsive to BCG immunotherapy. • Uses a sustained intravesical delivery system to release gemcitabine directly into the bladder. • Provides bladder-preserving therapy, reducing the need for radical surgery. • Enhances local tumor control while minimizing systemic toxicity. • Expands treatment options for patients at risk of progression to muscle-invasive disease. **  This innovation represents the future of oncology: precision, targeted therapy, and improved quality of life for patients facing high-risk...

Objectives Of Pre-clinical Studies

Image
Objectives Of Pre-clinical Studies • The purpose of pre-clinical study is to develop adequate data to decide that it is reasonably safe to proceed with human trials of the drug. • Means, a laboratory test of a new drug or a new medical device, usually done on animal subjects, to see if the treatment really works and if it is safe to test on humans. • However the main objective is to collect the data to submit to the FDA for IND filing. Phase 0-   •Is the agent hitting its target ? Phase 1-   • How does the agent affect the human body. • What doses are safe. Phase 2- • Does the agent or intervention have an effect on the disease Phase 3- • Is the new agent or intervention better than the standard? • Participants have an equal chance to be assigned to one of two or more groups Phase 4 -  • Post Marketing Surveillance - Long Term Safety. * Phase 0:-  Advantages- • Less chances of adverse effects. • Less no. of volunteers. • Short duration. • Reduced cost of devel...

Education and Training Program in the Hospital

Education and Training Program in the Hospital:- •Hospital education and training programs are essential for safe patient handling and efficient healthcare delivery.  •Through demonstrations, workshops, and conferences, these programs reduce errors, improve patient safety, and upgrade staff skills. *   Core Objectives:- • Organizational Readiness:- Prepare employees for evolving organizational needs and prevent skill obsolescence. • Career Development:- Prepare staff for higher-level responsibilities and develop individual potential for career growth. • Quality Healthcare:- Ensure economical and quality healthcare output while supporting clinical competency and patient-centered care. * Role of the Pharmacist:- • Clinical Education:- -  Provide education on drug use, pharmacokinetics, and adverse drug reactions. -  Monitor drug sales, prescription trends, and procurement. -  Participate in medical education programs (psychiatric, diabetic, cardiac). • Reg...

Pharmacovigilance remind that patent safety

Image
ðŸ˜ŠHello Everyone, For all the freshers stepping into Pharmacovigilance, it's very important to know about the historical incident "The Thalidomide Tragedy", which changed the face of drug safety forever. 💡What happened? In the late 1950s, Thalidomide was introduced as a sedative and treatment for morning sickness in pregnant women. Unfortunately, it was not tested on pregnant animals before approval. As a result, thousands of babies were born with severe birth defects (limb deformities, organ damage). 💡Reason for the tragedy ➡️Lack of proper clinical trials ➡️Absence of testing in pregnant animals ➡️Weak regulatory requirements for drug approval at that time 💡Changes after the tragedy ➡️Strict drug regulations  implemented globally ~Mandatory animal studies, including reproductive toxicity studies ~More rigorous clinical trial phases before drug approval ~More rigorous clinical trial phases before drug approval ~Establishment of Pharmacovigilance systems to continuous...
